The Governor of South Khorasan emphasized that, given the province’s unique handicraft capacities, particularly in gemstone production, managers should procure administrative gifts from locally made handicrafts.
According to Miras Aria, Seyed Mohammadreza Hashemi stated on Tuesday, April 23, 2025, during a specialized meeting with gemstone industry stakeholders, that South Khorasan is considered the “paradise and treasure trove” of the country’s gemstones, possessing significant potential and capabilities in this sector.
Highlighting the government’s ongoing support for gemstone artisans, Hashemi noted that during the Nowruz holidays, handicraft bazaars were set up at city entrances to promote and sell local gemstones, yielding positive results.
He added that with over 300 million people engaged in tourism worldwide, South Khorasan has vast potential to create jobs and generate high added value through its unique offerings.
Referring to the diversity and quality of the province’s gemstones, Hashemi emphasized the need for stronger national and international promotion and pledged continued governmental support within available resources.
He also instructed mayors to establish handicraft marketplaces at the entrances of all cities, using this opportunity to foster employment, particularly in home-based businesses, and promote the province’s handicrafts.
Hashemi pointed out that the existence of more than 600 gemstone cutting workshops in the province has already created considerable employment. However, he stressed the necessity of establishing cooperatives to further organize and empower this sector.
Finally, Hashemi called for the formation of a task force to gather small-scale investments and channel them into large-scale investments, aligning with the “Year of Investment for Production” slogan.
